Overview
CSWE’s Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) opportunities support the mission of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to reduce the effects of substance abuse and mental illness on America’s communities by increasing the number of individuals trained to work with underrepresented and underserved racial/ethnic minority persons with or at risk for mental health and/or substance abuse disorders. Primary Functions
The primary objective of the MFP Advisory Board is to support the continued success and activities of MFP by collaborating with the CSWE staff to provide expertise in support of MFP projects and initiatives. The advisory committee plays a crucial role in advising MFP staff on policies procedures and overall program planning.
Advisory Board members:

Attend and participate in Advisory Board meetings and MFP reception at CSWE’s Annual Program Meeting (APM)

Advise the program on fellowship selection processes (including performing the review, evaluation, and rating of applications each fellowship year)

Provide consultation regarding program needs, such as selecting training topics and presenters

Meet at least one time per year, virtually, to approve newly selected fellows and renew current fellows

Support program recruitment and advocacy efforts

Support program fundraising and sponsorship efforts

Perform other duties as requested by the MFP Director aligned with ensuring excellence in MFP programming
Eligibility
MFP Advisory Board members must:

Be a full- or part-time social work faculty member at a CSWE-accredited or candidate social work program; or be a licensed social worker

Possess experience or interest in academia, clinical services, and research serving racial/ethnic minority populations;

Willingness and availability to attend MFP Advisory Board meetings and to meet to discuss MFP applications;

Maintain current CSWE membership (included for faculty and administrators of CSWE member programs;)
Faculty who are alumni of the CSWE MFP are encouraged to apply.
Application
Applicants who are eligible and interested must complete the application through the online portal. Applications are open each spring. Applicants are selected based upon experience in academia, clinical services, and research serving racial/ethnic minority populations. Within the application portal, applicants will respond to a brief set of questions (including a statement of interest); and upload CV.
Appointment
CSWE will evaluate applications based on applicant qualifications and to ensure a diverse and well-rounded group of volunteers considering CSWE’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy Statement.
Applicants will be notified of a decision by mid-June. MFP Advisory Board members are appointed to 3-year terms of service, with the option to renew their appointment at the term's expiration. Terms align with the MFP grant year; therefore, appointments are October 1–September 30 each year.
